LPT: If you run Windows, check your task manager for "WDF.exe". If you see it, it's a virus, using your CPU as a bitcoin miner. It's surprisingly common on people's computers and most people who have it never realize, they just think their computer got slower.

Fitgirl Assassins Creed Origins install bitcoin miner causing high cpu usage when Task Manager is not running

Fitgirl Assassins Creed Origins install bitcoin miner causing high cpu usage when Task Manager is not running
Hello,I downloaded Assasins creed origins today from this site: fitgirl-repacks dot site And something feels odd when I exit the game, my CPU is running at roughly 60%, and as soon as I open task manager it would go back to normal. I ran malwarebytes and it found 2 suspicious items and removed them, but the problem continue, so I started to investigate manually. So I start up Performance Monitor and check which process would shoot up as soon as I close Task Manager. This is what I found. SoundModule. I open up Task Manager, and found 2 running process of this, I open their location and found them at AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoundModule.
I quickly look these up, they do not belong to microsoft and won't trigger any antivirus or malwarebytes, I killed those process and deleted them which solved the problem for me. Hopefully this post will help someone in the future.
For more details regarding this "SoundModule" https://www.anti-malware.name/removal-guide/remove-soundmodule-exe/
I started the game again after that and the "soundmodule" executable or process did not get recreated.
If you pirate a game, make sure you check on your CPU usage to see if there is an suspicious thing going on. In my case, I only realized that something is running on my cpu due to CoreTemp, because I would see the temperature be at 60 to 70 degree Celsius, while my normal idle temp is usually only at 40 to 60, and as soon as I start Task manager, the temperature did drop back to 40ish.

I have ran the script to verify bins a few times before installing cause it didnt seem to do anything to me. Installed the game and had the cpu issue.
P.S. If you don't trust me, that is fine. This post is not for you. I am not here to convince you or trash fitgirl. We are all pirates here, we are all stealing in someway. This post is mainly for someone else that may have this problem in the future.
If anyone have similar issue, and don't know how to find the bitcoin miner in their pc, do not be shy to private message me, I am happy to help. It is very easy for developers to scan for running process and stop work while a given process is opened, thus the miners process will continue to evolve to hide under more and more programs, so it will become very difficult at some point.
UPDATE:
I was contacted by 2 people that have seen this post. 1 person has installed the same package and was not affect. Another person has installed the same package and was affected. Chance is the installer is installing the bitcoin miner based on random number generator.

Is this increase in % CPU normal in task manager. /Help me get rid of Bitcoin miners and malware

So i wanted to download a torrent for a game from IGG games but my bitdefender anti virus always said that there was a bitcoin miner wanting to start up the process. I doubt it has started the process because my anti virus always blocked it fast when dedected. It blocks it but this warning always keeps coming back when i start up my pc.
I tried manually to delete those files but it just creates a new folder that is similar with these contents. I delete it but it comes back under a new name in a hidden folder of windows. (there where some .htm files in it)
Here's pictures with the warning + the proces of my pc monitored by Process Hacker software:
-> https://imgur.com/a/tfe1DEQ
I did this tutorial video: youtube.com/watch?v=zedALn7hZ4o
where the guy, a local repair shop guy runs the pc trough with a bunch of anti virus programs:
Nothing dedected, except some PUP's with adwcleaner.
---
NOW... after all that bitdefender doesn't give me warnings anymore...
but i can still see cpu process spikes when afk and when i open task manager for the first time it goes from 90-100% to 40. Or from 80¨% to 20.
See here a gif of what happens: https://gyazo.com/b8afa4e4cfffb8c6924f4974ed0b6287
I just want to know if that's normal or that means there's still something in the system?
(Google chrome proces has 17 processes but only 2 tabs are open?)
Thanks for your help already!

odyssey is my unity

i've been struggling with odyssey for a while. can't quite put my finger on one thing in particular but inconsistency seems to be the main point, and maybe the new RPG direction of the AC titles.
first up, i own all the main AC games. 1 through to Origins & Odyssey. enjoyed Origins very much and while the boss battles didnt really do it for me, i still went through 100% and sunk in something like 160hours to get there.
Odyssey issues seem to be a growing list. noticed the NPC interactions are very samy where part of the cutscenes seem to be missing, too much animation copy&paste, and theres been many times of deja-vu with what they look like. Lets say it's one of those missions you need to bring something back. Theres no real handover of the item and cutscene goes straight to "well, what do you think $NPC?". what, what... i didnt even see anything handed over!! I had one cutscene today where you've apparently handed over the items but moments later you get a glimpse of the item handover at the corner of the screen - one of the Phidias quests in Olympia i recall.
I'm now at lvl46. whats happened to Kassandra's flirty nature that was present at the start? not seen a single 'love' action in the dialogue options since maybe lvl20 ish. not even with oil for the olympic games - surely there must have been some innuendo or joke possible there?! i guess the greeks are not as liberal as the loading screen tips suggest.
control system a frustrating. tbh, thats not an odyssey issue but a general AC title issue. i play on pc with xbox1 cntlr. NO kassandra, i didnt tell you to jump sideways. climb UP. more recently i've been seeing the unwillingness to climb certain parts of objects (phidias 'stick' quests where you have to climb statues) or game engine decides 'yeah, player wants to jump on that pole slightly to the side when they're on top of market stall and the ground is far more obvious'. calling your horse is frustrating as hell in built up areas - just runs round in circles crashing into things.
speaking of your horse, the auto pilot system is worse than Origins. Origins had it's quirks but Odyssey is on a new level. in a 3 way junction where you get a triangle form, it always chooses to go the long way (2sides) vs the shortest 1 side of the triangle intersection. when in the cities, i'm constantly getting 'no road route to objective', yet i can trott 20 meters on the same path and it'll magically find a route.
performance is shocking. from what i remember of origins, 30% CPU time, 90% GPU. Odyssey, 100%CPU peaks and 98% GPU in far isolated places. what the hell is the game doing to consume CPU time? certainly not enough NPC's anywhere to warrant that CPU time. fwiw, i'm on i5-8700k (6core), 16gb ram, 970ti. I'm all for using the power of the hardware, but game seems to be running a cpu bitcoin miner, or seti/f@h crunching for the hell of it. far better looking games out there even from yesteryear that stress the system less.
viewpoints. every AC in the past has been the highest point in the area for the sync point. Odyssey? na, we'll just throw some random waypoints in and be done with it.
like most have commented on, animus has very little meaning in odyssey. but yet you get the loading screen tips reminding you about the bleeding effect and spending too long inside the animus. you dont even get an option to exit out of animus any more. i guess there is no current-day storyline but then doesn't that call into question the entire point of the animus?
I do like the RPG style inventory system. I was skeptical with Origins but thought it works well. Odyssey seems to have turned it up a notch or 3 further. I do like you can focus on one of 3 play styles. However it falls apart for me with these focal battles - legendary animals, mythical creatures (only done the minotaur so far, do i really have to do more? :/), conquest battles. getting to the point where the harder enemies like polemarchs, mercs and cult members are getting tiresome. It's not that i'm finding it difficult to defeat them but on an even semi-realistic viewpoint, a blade to the head is gonna kill outright reguardless of my assassin dmg level.
i'm tempted to run through the remainder of the main storyline with game on easy just to get closure on it. the next AC will be one i wont pre-ordeearly buy.
what has crossed my mind is maybe ubisoft has lost too much of their original AC team and it's running on a few remainders. it has a feeling of being un-pure and lost it's identity from what AC should be.

This post wasnt really meant to get answers - all questions are rhetorical. Odyssey does seem to get good reviews but it's just not working for me.

So, Linux CPU solo mining.

So I set up a Ubuntu PC on the side, primarily to run a Sataoshi v0.15 node. Now, I thought it'd be nice to also run a CPU bitcoin miner on it, just to open up the 1/10grahmsnumber chance of solving a block solo, but all the CPU mining guides I run into are, of course, massively out of date since CPU mining is deader than Disco could ever hope for and I'm much more likely to spend Earth's GDP a few times over in electricity costs before I solve one on average. Can someone point me at a guide for crazy people, such as myself, that will explicitly tell me how to point cpuminer to mine my local blockchain to that wallet? The heat generated by the CPU is going to pull double duty in keeping my office a bit warmer this winter.

Help! Got a quick question about mining

Can anyone give me a rough calculation on how much it would cost to run a CPU bitcoin miner? Yes, yes, I know everyone has upgraded to ASICs and CPU mining is unprofitable, but I'm just wondering by how much. If one was to run this thing 24/7 for 1 week how expensive would it be electricity wise and how much coin would be produced at todays difficulty level.
